Hello there.

It's nice to meet you.

I'm Jessica.

Once upon a time, I wrote a lot on this blog.

Now, not so much. But I haven't quite gotten around to totally delete it from the internet just yet. So, here it remains, collecting dust.

So if you've ended up here, hello and welcome. I still tweet from time to time and pin (see above) and if you want to see what I do, click on the giant box below that says VIEW MY WORK.

TTFN, y'all.

Nocturnes

We're fancying just a bit more invernally inspired art after the moody weather over the weekend. Honestly, British painters (and UK-based expats) at the turn of last century put quite a deft hand to the genre of the nocturne. One can even forgive Atkinson Grimshaw his fascination with fairies as his nightime portrayals of the north so completely capture the external dampness and cold shoulder to shoulder with the lovely, yellow warmth that eminates from pubs and shops during a wet British winter. If you like a bit of nighttime painting, look up Whistler too. He's the most noted of the nocturne painters, and his one-time assistant, Sickert, was well known for his dark (although in subject matter rather than a plain uses-black-paint way) work.
