Matte nail varnish at MAC

Matte nail varnish for MAC

MAC is coming out with a range of matte nail varnish for September 2009 in a creative partnership with manicurist Jin Soon Choi. This trend has been flying under the radar for a couple of seasons but we flagged up the grey and black matte nail varnish trend last year.

Lindsay Lohan fronts Sevin Nyne fake tan

Sevin Nyne? Noh Thenks. I just cannot imagine a worse poster child for fake tan... the perennially geranium-hued Lilo is not an aspirational figure. Although, maybe I'm too old? Maybe the tweens love her and want to look like her!? God help us all if that's the case...

If I were trying to market a fake tan product at tweenagers and I needed a young celebrity that girls emulate in order to cash in on it, I would go for somebody else. Even that Vanessa girl who got in trouble in the states for getting out her babs. She's tan, right? Or why not Miley Cyrus (Well done, Billy Ray, well done)? How about one of those Hills girls? They're all young and hip and none look too much like a melting candle at the age of 20 (going on 46).

There has to be some up-and-coming, fresh California babe out here who'd be willing to front a fake tan campaign... maybe it was the misspelled name that put off potential suitors? After all, the only place you see things spelled like that normally is on the front of really seedy nightclubs or try-hard restos (with Wahaca being the exception. Blighty would have been entirely confounded by the Spanish spelling: Oaxaca). I guess the girl's gotta make a living. We all do. Just get a sub-editor.

If UR n2 being a kool kid, Sevin Nyne is 4 U.

London fashion week 2009 beauty round up

London Fashion Week passed in a heartbeat, although don't take that to mean we didn't notice it. It had edges and was hand over fist the most interesting fashion week to happen this season.

The make up was tough and, well, you had to have balls to wear the lion's share of clothes on show. But we loved it, especially some of the dresses at Emilio de la Morena. Fabulous. And, of course, Christopher Kane's sophisticated efforts of late wouldn't go amiss in the cocktail wardrobe we wish we had... back to business: we're here for the beauty. The make up was often times as austere as the clothing... minimal blush, sometimes inky eyes, slashes of colour across lips or full-on natural faces. Some of the trends will never make it off the catwalk (blue lips, whited out faces, red eyes. Not going to happen. That's all for the theatrical aspect of it all, ladies and gents... move on after the show).

Hairstyles were all over the place (braids, corn rows, afros, faux bobs, faux fringes)... it was anything goes, really. Maybe it's an homage to the recession... available funds to follow trends is tighter, so work with what you already have, right? We loved it. A bit sloppy, a bit street, all London. Read on to see the looks and read about the trends we spotted for A/W09.
