Merry Christmas! Be a do-gooder in the new year

We hope you have a lovely Christmas Eve. We'll be tucked away in a warm, festive Hampstead pub in mere hours.

In the meantime, we're also getting our heads around The New Year Plan (you know, the list you make of everything you aim to do, change or make happen). The first thing we want to do is start volunteering our time for some good. Let's be honest, we're all busy but we can make time to help out, even if it's just a few hours a week.

Put what you know to good use. If you're a dab hand at makeup and styling, volunteer with Look Good... Feel Better. Fashion experts among us volunteer as a Personal Shopper with Dress for Success. Volunteer just a few hours a week for Refuge, which helps women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Those of you who live in North London, like myself, the Nia Project is a cause for which you can volunteer to make a difference in your local community. Call 020 7683 1270) them mid-January for information on their spring volunteer program. The Poppy Project offers one of the only safe houses for sex trafficked women in London. It's a small project and if there aren't volunteer opportunites to be had there, try it's umbrella institution Eaves Women's Aid.

We hope that puts you down the right path for your do-gooding needs in 2008. There are alot of people who could do with a helping hand, not just at the holidays, but year round.
